Open
Cathedral
Mandate
The Cathedral
is open to the public weekdays from 11:30 -1:30, to provide a sanctuary
in our downtown core for quiet reflection, contemplation, and prayer.
As a Registered Heritage Site, the Cathedral is also open for those
with an interest in its historic and religious significance. Visitors
are invited to walk freely around the Cathedral, or may choose to
follow the brief "Walking Tour" which is available. Alternatively,
visitors may simply choose to sit quietly and use the Cathedral
to meet their own needs.
Volunteer
Activities
The Cathedral
could not remain open during the day without the attendance of volunteers.
Volunteers greet visitors as they enter the Cathedral, and provide
historic and religious information, when appropriate. Volunteers
keep a running tally of the number of visitors coming into the Cathedral,
and ensure that all visitors have left before closing the doors.
Volunteers work in groups of two, and are not responsible for unlocking
or locking the Cathedral.
Time requirement
Open Cathedral
hours run weekdays from 11:30 -1:30. Although there is no minimum
commitment, many volunteers work 1 - 4 shifts per month.
Special Skills
Required
Volunteers should
enjoy meeting new people, and have a friendly arid welcoming demeanor.
Volunteers should have an interest and knowledge in the historic
past of the Cathedral (material is provided). Visitors may include
tourists from other countries as well as people from the street,
so volunteers should feel comfortable interacting with a diverse
group of people.
