Choir
Mandate
The Choir at
the Cathedral seeks to provide outstanding music for the Sunday
morning liturgy, and for special events and holy days throughout
the year.
Time requirement
The choir practices
each week during September through June on Wednesday evenings from
7:30 - 9:30 (rehearsal time is subject to change). The choir is
expected to be in attendance during the Sunday morning liturgy,
and practices for one hour on Sunday mornings before the 10:30 service.
In addition, the choir practices for an hour before each special
event.
Special
Skills Required
A love of music
is the primary requirement of choir members. The choir is open to
all ages. A musical background and an ability to read music is required.
What is
Sung
The choir leads
the singing of the Hymns and provides an anthem each Sunday. Usually
the choir sings the appointed Psalm to traditional Anglican chant,
although plainsong and other settings are used. A variety of Mass
settings are used and occasionally an introit is sung. Additional
hymns or anthems are usually sung during Communion.
