Altar
Guild
The Altar Guild
carries out the various activities necessary to prepare the Cathedral
for Special Services, regular Sunday services, Weddings, Baptisms,
and serviced held on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
The Altar Guild looks after the Altars, the linens, vestments, and
the hangings, seeing to their cleaning, repairing, and making new
ones when necessary
The Altar Guild
is divided into four groups. Each group meets every fourth Saturday,
and the total Guild meets several times a year.
We would like
to extend an invitation to NEW MEMBERS. If you would like more information
about the Altar Guild, please contact Father Lee, the Cathedral
office, or any of the Group Leaders.
The Altar Guild
has a very special function as it prepares the Cathedral for worship
on Sundays and during the week through the preparation of the sacred
vessels and linens. Beyond regular services, the Guild sets up for
the holy days, as well as weddings, funerals, and baptisms. It cares
for the linens, communion silver, liturgical hangings, candles,
and brasses which are used in the various services. It also maintains
the needlework, and arranges for flowers to adorn the church.
Mandate
The Altar Guild focuses on maintaining an atmosphere of beauty and
reverence at the Cathedral. This is a quiet, "behind-the-scenes"
ministry for those who love to help create a sacred space for worship.
One of the most satisfying parts of the work is the ongoing training.
Through wonderful fellowship, we learn more about our Anglican traditions,
better understanding worship and symbolism. The Altar Guild can
play an active part in helping to share this understanding with
the congregation as a whole.
Time Commitment
There are four
teams. Each team is responsible for Altar Guild duties once every
4 weeks. Each team leader is responsible for presiding over the
entire guild for 3 months. For Christmas and Easter, the entire
Guild gathers for a "big clean-up", and at Thanksgiving
we decorate the Cathedral for Harvest.
Special Skills
No one likes
to houseclean - except, perhaps, in the service of Christ. Think
you might be interested in joining this hardworking group?
