Worship:
Worship is
at the heart of all we do. At the Cathedral we strive to offer
worship which combines sublime music, dignified ceremonial and
thoughtful preaching in the best cathedral tradition.
On Sunday
mornings, the Holy Eucharist (or Mass, Communion or Lord's Supper)
is celebrated twice.
The 8:00 a.m.
service is a said celebration with a brief homily and typically
lasts 35 minutes. The Book of Common Prayer is always used.
The 10:30
a.m. service is a Choral Eucharist with full choir and sermon
and typically lasts 75 minutes. The Book of Common Prayer and
the Book of Alternative Services are used alternately.
Both services
are celebrated at the High Altar.
The 10:30
a.m. Eucharist is the principal service of the week and typically
takes the form of a Solemn Eucharist at which all of the resources
of the community are brought to bear: the use of music, a fuller
ceremonial, and attendance upon the priest of a number of other
clergy and lay ministers to each of whom special functions are
designated. Although it is formal in mood, we are not!
The Holy Eucharist
is additionally celebrated on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 12:15
p.m. according to the Book of Common Prayer. This said service
typically lasts 25 minutes.
We invite
everyone to participate in our worship. The calendar provided
gives further details to the services, including those which fall
outside of the regular times.
